Yeah, the mantis had few chances. But that Orthopteran was good anyway. It realized that it needed to drop the mantis on the ground. It did it sucessfully and didnt give the mantis any chance to survive. GG |

the mantis survived alot longer than i thought it would. i've seen the Orthropteran kill a camel spider so i thought that it would have even less trouble with a mantis. |

Gayness I say the ortho was a huge armored tank the mantis needs to be pitted into the smaller sized matches. In fact why dojn't they put the species into classes and into sections. Ex. venom strength form... Comon that was just pitiful. I f you ask me they are trying to make the cricket look good |

I want to see a match with a larger mantis VS a smaller scorpion, I think the mantis might actualy have a chance then ! They keep putting the mantis with very large apponents and mantises are normaly very thin. Most of the mantises strength is in its fore arms and it has to be able to grasp its opponent to do damage! If the mantis has an opponent with a smaller thiner frame than it might be able to get its vise-grip on it and then game over for its opponent! All the fights I have seen have a few flaws that work against the mantis, first of all the opponents are always too big and mantises generaly only attack what they can eat which is of a size they can lock there grip onto anything else they see as too big and intimidating they will try to avoid by backing away and using a punch manuever to keep the opponent away. With limited room and larger than normal opponents the mantis is doomed. Second is mantises usualy use stealth, camouflage, and the ability to hang upside down and climb around branches to there advantage when hunting. There is not a single fight where the mantis is able to climb up and over above its opponent and it is certainly unable to use camouflage and stealth in its attack! I have several Chinese mantises at home and they have no problem over powering prey when they can grab it and take it to the screen top of there cage where the prey hangs helpless while being eaten alive. I have fed them bees and spiders even a rather large young hissing cockroach  ! In the past I kept some local mantises and I would feed them black widow spiders (which are also local) all the time and in every case but one the mantis annihilated the black widow! The one exception was when I dropped the mantis into the black widows web and even then the mantis managed to remove one of the widows legs before it became the spiders meal! |

I agree with DAVID N. Mantises are very good and strong hunters, but they kill only when they want to eat. In this fights, there are too small mantises and sometimes you can see they are overeaten, so they have no reason to fight. They have no poison or weapons to defend itself so they only want to run away… And why there aren´t more fights? I think that there are many interesting combinations of fights we haven´t seen yet... For example solpugid vs tarantula, hornet vs orthopteran, centipede vs solpugid, hornet vs spider, orthopteran vs scorpion, mantis vs centipede, solpugid vs hornet, two kinds of spiders…. |
